Somewhat embarassing request
Well, I mentioned somewhere else that I'm working on a mod. It's not VERY different from the basic game, mostly just some improvements. At least I think they're improvements. Anyway, I rather enjoy doing the data files, especially with the outstanding SE Modder program (nice work Dave!). But... here's the embarassing part... I can't stand working on the AI files!
Well, it's not as bad as all that, but it is tedious. I'm a bit ashamed to ask someone else to do what I could do but don't feel like doing, especially when there's no compensation involved, but I thought "hey, maybe somebody actually enjoys modding AI!" So, if anybody was wondering what to do with themselves and felt like doing some AI work, let me know. I'm starting from the TDM base with the AI, and that helps, but still... When the mod is finished, I might post it, or before, but I'm a little worried about crediting all of those who I've shamelessly stolen from. I might miss a few. Also, like I said, this mod doesn't have much of a concept. Oh, yeah, since I'm asking, any artsy types want to make ship pics? |

Hey, I got another modding question. In the image mod, there are soooo many armor pics along with a bunch of other stuff. I'd love to hear anybody's ideas on what to do with them, especially anybody's ideas on what kind of abilities could be added to armor. I already thought of solar supply generation.

When it comes to the image mod, tis up to the mod creator as to what images he wants for his own mod. When I set up the AST Mod I used many of the Components and Facility images from the image mod.
As far as armor ideas, the sky is the limit. You can make any type of armor you want. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif If you want, you can even look at other mods for ideas. For the most part most Mod makers could care less if you steal their idea and run with it. It's mostly the basic propulsion model, but a couple of the really big ships require two or three engines per move.

I think I'll go ahead and post the mod, but I need a name. Plus I have to right out all of those descriptions now... sigh. Mostly I need a name for the mod... All I could think of is the Quantum Mod, which is sort of lame, plus it might get mixed up with a slightly better known mod with the initial "Q". Maybe "The best mod ever!"... Maybe just simple and descriptive like "Stormcrow's Expansion Mod" Yeah...

Modding AI is not that dificult. Converting TDM AI to any mod can be done. What we need is more information, like what kind of ship propulsion do you use.

Well, I was making progress, but then a certain Imperator who shall remain unnamed went and made a quadrant mod and... I feel like I'm playing a whole new game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif So until the initial rush of playing a map from the Deluxe Quadrant Mod wears off, all work will cease. So you'll have to stick with the other dozen mods already available for a while. I might try to post the data files for now.
