Problem with patching
 

Forgive me if this is a known issue. I just tried patching to 1.84, and was told that my Version was detected as incorrect -- it needed to be 1.78 or some others. But my Version of SE IV Gold is 1.78! Any tips on how to address this?

yea... its a royal pain in the you know what.

I suggest you back up your save games, ship sets, mods, empires etc...

move the whole seiv directory to another drive and install the cd over again... and then install the patch...

i also wish it did not want to search the computer.... cannot wait until we have a tera drive... and it just searches and searches... why not just use the reg for that stuff...

There is no change in data files, so you can rename the exe to "178.exe" before applying the patch and use that file to run old games.
But to make things easier just insist to have all games you're in upgraded to Last patch.

Well, that didn't work. I removed the old installation, reinstalled, and tried to run the patch. Same message. Any other ideas?

Do you have se4 classic installed as well? If you have , the patcher is probably finding that exe and identifying it as an older Version. During the install, slect browse and make absolutely sure you have your 1.78 directory selcted.

I got the same error while attempting to update from SE4 Gold v1.60. Only solution was to reinstall from CD and then patch. That shouldn't be necessary -- patch should have worked the first time. No other copies of the game were on my system.
