Do we need a new SEIV PBW tournament?

Survivor is cool, but it takes a while. It could be many months before another one starts, and maybe you weren't around when it started or you already got knocked out.

Koth is cool, but it's not really a tournament, it's a league. And two player games aren't for everyone.

UCT, uh is that still running? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

So maybe we need a new tournament. I'd be happy to set it up and run the games. That doesn't take much work. If you are interested, or have some suggestions on format, let's here them.

I was thinking about an open tournament with as many people as want to join, divided into five-player, Last man standing games. Depending on the total number of players in the tourney we'd have either a single championship game, or if there are enough players maybe a playoff round to get in the championship game.

Something like this should be playable from begining to end in 6 months if everyone is dedicated. I'd probably make it 36 hour auto turns, although I could see being a little more flexible on vacations and holidays then I am in the survivor tourney.

No matter what kind of tournament it's, I'm in http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif The sooner it begin the better it is.

It seems like UCT has lost steam we literally have three (or four) games left. Eric are you out there?

I think this is a good idea. I like the 5 on 5 idea and the possible "playoff" round to get into the championship game.
I'd be up for it for sure. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

How about a double elimination tournament? I always wanted to do one of those. Here's what I am thinking.

First round. Five player games. Everybody joins and plays two games. Ideally you would not play against the same people in both games. I think this is possible, but we might have to make allowances depending on the total number of people in the tourney. Anyone losing both games is out of the tourney.

Second round. Still five player games, if possible based on the number of players left. Anyone winning both first round games gets to join two games in the second round also. Players who won and lost in teh first round only join one second round game.

Championship round. One game, anyone left.

Since it's a double elimination tournament, it is possible that the winner of the championship game could have lost one game in an earlier round. It's also possible that for one or more of the losers of the championship game it could be their only loss. In that event there would be a second championship game with anyone still only having one tournament loss.

Is that too complicated? I think that's how double elimination touneys usually are run. I know in softball tourneys a lot of times they have to play two championship games becuase one or both of the teams have no losses.

Of course it may not be possible in every case to have 5 players in every game. We will just have to be a little flexible in that.

Also, I was thinking to help the games move along I'd make them "regional" where they are divided by when players are available to play most often. Of course it's not likely that will be 100% possible, but I can try.

Opinions?

Sounds great but one thing wasn't clear for me: Is there only one winner per game?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, one winner per game. But since it's a double elimination tourney losing doesn't mean you are out of the tourney. Unless it's your second loss that is.

Many players is the idea. Tourneys aren't much fun if you don't have a lot of players. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, but if I understood correctly to get two five player games at the second round we need 50 players in the first round. And that's a lot of people!
