Sensors and countermeasures
Hello to all:
I want to know a little more about how the different kind of sensors and their respective levels work against the cloakings and other countermesures present in SE4. Anyone can explain the subject a little? It seems to be a rather complex aspect of the game, one which I would like to understand better and develop some ideas for my X-Com Mod. Are there any internet page and/ or manual on this topic? Thanks. |
Re: Sensors and countermeasures
In the default game, all types of scanners (Hyper Optics, Gravitic Scanner, Psychic Scanner, Temporal Scanner and Tachyon Scanner) are the same. A cloaking device cloaks with the same level in each Category, so any of them will work.
So, a level 3 cloaking device protects from level 1 or 2 scanners of all types, but not against a level 3 scanner of any type. However, you can mod them so that you have different "cloaking devices" with varying types of cloaking require different types of scanners. For example, a Psychic Cloaking Device could protect against Psychic Scanners (of appropriate levels), but not against the other 4 types of scanners. A ship with a Tachyon Scanner I could detect any ship that has just a Psychic Cloaking Device. The way the abilities work is that each cloaking type and scanner function independantly. If a scanner exceeds any one of the cloaking levels on a ship (taking the highest level of all devices present of the ship), then the scanner can scan the ship. So, you could theoretically have 10 levels in all cloaking except Gravitic, and then a ship with a Gravitic Scanner of any level would be able to detect you. But, a Psychic Scanner 5 would not be able to. |
Re: Sensors and countermeasures
These and other answers can be found in the Newbie FAQ:
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...;f=23;t=005518 Specifically: 5.9.7 To see a cloaked (level X) ship, you only need 1 kind of sensor (hyper optic, tachyon, gravitic, temporal, psychic) level X in the system. This sensor can be on any of your ships or sat’s, your ally’s ship’s or sat’s (even the ship/sat that is cloaked!!!). This does not take into account storm/nebula effects. Slick. |
Re: Sensors and countermeasures
The Newbie FAQ doesn't have a very complete answer.
