Space Empire IV (not gold)..
 

I played Space Empires IV Gold demo a few days ago and I have to say that I am VERY impressed with it. At first, I thought the interface was complicated as hell, but after reading the 40+ page tutorial, I knew the game like the back of my hand..

At least, I thought I did. I usually get pounded by the AI before the 100 turns is over. But it didn't matter, the point was that I enjoyed the game (unlike POO3)

I liked it so much, that I managed to nab one on eBay, but I just forgot something..

I got the origianl Space Empire IV and not the gold. The buyer didn't commit fraud because he didn't mention it, I just assumed it was Gold. My fault, but hell, I got the game.

My question is, would some of the AI mods that I have been seeing around here will work normal Space Empires or not?

Look for TDM 2.xx. I think that is the Last Version for non-Gold SE4.

In the PBW file library are a lot of mods, some for 1.49. Hit the "Show all Versions" button cause some times they have a newer revision that is for gold and you can't see the older one.

Pirates and Nomads mod Versions 1.x and 2.x are for SE4 classic (3.x are for gold).

P&N can make for quite a challenging game as a Pirate race, especially against TDM AIs.

There's a SE IV Classic Mods (pre-Gold) {link} thread in Shrapnel's Mod Archives, which more people ought to list their older mods in.

There must be the pre-Gold Babylon5 mod somewhere !
