Minesweeping balance suggestion.

A while back someone mentioned that the repair ability works on fighters and drones, opening up interesting possibilities for modders.

Does anyone know if minesweeping can be applied to units? Modders might then be able to address complaints about the mine/ sweeping system.

If minesweeping were restricted to units, the defender could put a bunch of PD sats in their minefield and hopefully pick off a few of the sweepers, increasing the chance of hitting a ship with the next field.

This would be really interesting in a mod where the immunity to mines for fighters and/or drones was turned on. You could sweep a minefield repeatedly even if you didn't have enough sweepers to remove it all at once. That in itself would be more 'balanced' than the current default behavior. Although drones would be difficult to send 'back' through the minefield. I guess fighters would be the way to go for this.

The sweeper units probably will not start next to the satellites, and so would not be shot at by them. The only situation where this would work would be going through a WP. But then, you could only use Drones. Fighters can't warp, after all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

That's true, but I think it still has potential- assuming the sweep ability actually works on units- I don't know that it does.

I did have warp point sweeping in mind in particular. The trade off between drone-based sweepers and fighter-based ones could be made interesting.
