Colonies Rioting

My colonies are throwing a peace protest or something. Actually it says they are rioting. What can I do about it? I do not see facilities that might help?

Thanks

Researching Psychology and then Applied Political Science gives you Urban Pacification Centers, which help happiness.

Garrison a 100 or so troops on the planets, and they will stop rioting after a few months (and go back to loving you too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif ).

The fastest way to get them to stop is to drop troops on the planet in question. "Be happy... or else!" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Planets will also get happy from having ships in the system and in orbit, but its obviously more expensive. A good short term measure, though.

Once the people are back in line, you can have them build Urban Pacification Centers, which improve happiness in the entire system. You'll get them by researching Applied Political Science.

One major cause of riots is a bad initial choice for your people's happiness type.
If you chose Bloodthirsty, your people will get upset when you sign treaties with aliens, and get happier when you declare wars and kill things.
If your people are "Neutral", then they get upset at just about anything. Treaties, wars, new colonies even. They calm down faster than normal, but they are generally considered the hardest happiness type to deal with.

Seems to me, it takes just about the number of turns they've been on riot to get them back to being good citizens. Of course, that could just be the formula at work.

You can see a thread Asmala did some time back on rioting and happiness levels.

Also don't forget when you build troops to quell a riot the cheapest and fastest way is to create a small troop with just a cockpit. Minimum 20 on a planet to have any affect.
I also found building Space Station Space Yards help as they produce even when the planet is rioting, which helps immensly when you need troops in a turn or two.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hmmmm....

I just captured a few planets of a bloodthirsty race which had a Urban Pacification Center on two of them.

They are "happy" now, and I was thinking of destroying the Centers.

Guess this is a bad idea? Yes/No?

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Only 1 UPC is effective per system, so scrap the 2nd one if the other one is in no danger of getting destroyed.

Captured races only retain their atmosphere breathing. All other traits like bloodthirsty are eliminated. The only other difference between your population and captured population is that captured population tend to get angry while yours tend to get happy (before applying the mirad of happiness factors) so having a UPC is always a good idea in a system that has captured popuation.

Hope this helps.

Slick.

Thanks Slick.

Good advice on elimininating one of the UPC's.

Are you saying that all captured alien races then become "generic" and all will exhibit the same characteristics?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, they will be like your population with those exceptions mentioned. I know it's kind of a confusing statement, but your racial attributes and characteristics are a property of your empire, not of your population. The only real property population has is its atmosphere breathing, so that carries over. Your empire has an attribute that defines your native population as well. Any other populations in your empire will suffer the negative happiness trend.

Is that totally confusing or does it make sense?

Slick.

Re: Colonies Rioting

Pacification Centers, Medical Facilities, Troops, warships over planet (not just 2 or 3), certain facilities under the various racial Traits, are some of the ways to make them happy. Be sure to read their descriptions, you only need l per system with some of these. enjoy the game,

PS. you can upload the population, vent them into space, transport new colonists to the planet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

PSS. you may also be victim of Intel attacks getting your planet/s to riot, be sure you have intel protection uup to keep this from happening, the Ai will use intel against you, let alone human players.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

just some idea Mac
