Scrapping or upgrading of WPF\'s
I did a search on this question and didnt see anything but is there a way to scrap or upgrade weapon platforms? Many a time I build wpf's with early tech but with limited cargo space as the game progress's room quickly runs out.
The only way I can think of doing it is to send a transport to that planet, load the platform and then have the transport jetison it. This is highly annoying though especially if a shipyard planet is not close by. Thanks for your time. Mal |
Re: Scrapping or upgrading of WPF\'s
You can't upgrade units, but need to scrap them.
There is a Jettison Cargo button (J) for the scrapping. |
Re: Scrapping or upgrading of WPF\'s
They can't be upgraded. When built it's the way they stay.
You can jettison cargo from planets aswell as ships. [ April 13, 2003, 18:59: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |
Re: Scrapping or upgrading of WPF\'s
You cannot upgrade units at all. This is one of the 'trade offs' for not having to pay maintenance. Unfortunately, you cannot scrap units in planetary cargo, either. At least you can scrap satellites and fighters and even drones by launching them and then using the scrap ship window. You might bug MM to allow items in planet cargo to be scrapped. This would at least let you recover some of your defense investment for the next generation.

Re: Scrapping or upgrading of WPF\'s
Weapon platforms are units. From the Newbie FAQ:
8.1.6 All units share these properties: 8.1.6.1 They can be built at any planet where there is cargo room somewhere in the sector to store them and do not require a spaceyard to be built. 8.1.6.2 They do not have any maintenance cost. 8.1.6.3 They cannot be upgraded, scrapped or analyzed. 8.1.6.4 When they take damage, they are not partially damaged. A unit is fully functional until it receives enough damage to destroy it. 8.1.6.5 They are stored in cargo of planets, ships or bases; and as cargo can be jettisoned. 8.1.6.6 Shield regenerators have no effect on units because of the way their entire structure is summed up and the unit is fully functional until total damage points exceed that number and it is then destroyed. For the same reason, Crystalline and Organic armor on units cannot use their special features. Slick. |

I was just telling my friend Last night about the response time on this forum and you all did not let me down:) Thank you very kindly for the prompt answers you all are great.
Me and a buddy been playing on my network and are obviously both relative newbies, ie only had game about 3 weeks but I positively love it. Once again thanks. Mal |
Re: Scrapping or upgrading of WPF\'s
Yep, they can't be scrapped. Only jettisoned. The difference is that you don't get any resources back.
Slick > We need to fix this I think: 5.8.6 Scrapped units, ships, and facilities return 30% of resources - this is without any modifiers like a recycling plant. (settings.txt) [ April 13, 2003, 19:15: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |

Re: Scrapping or upgrading of WPF\'s
Is it possible to jettison large numbers at once, with 50+ planets especially if you use ministers at all, which seem to like creating wps just because, going planet by planet is downright tedious, if not now, possibly a jettison button similar to the scrap facilities that exists?
