Map Issue (s)
I'm trying to prepare the map for the Challenge Match.
Goal: 100 systems with "ballenced" starting positions. Situation: -Map generated using FQM 1.18, (I don't think this is the cause). -114 Systems -I deleted 2 systems. -New warp conecting lines show up. --From each of the systems that were originaly connected one of the deleted systems to a system on the other side of the map. -I checked the "Linked" systems. -There are no connecting warp points. -I start a new game using an Ancient Race -The warp links are on the map but there are no visible warp points. Fresh install of SEIV and Latest Patch FQM 1.18 Maximum Number Of Systems := 120 Questions: -1) Is this "Normal" -1a) Will this affect the game? -1b) Is there anything I can do? -2) Can i please have a map editor like CIV II? Unimportant issue: If you start a new game and generate a map it will be displayed in the upper right. This is good. If you start a new game and load a map it will not show be displayed in the upper right. This is ok with me. I'm guessing it might be a feature so you can load a map someone created without seeing it. --Unimportant Inconsistancy, (way to cheat?) --If you start a new game --Generate a map it will appear in the upper right --If you then load a map it will appear in the upper right. |
Re: Map Issue (s)
Well, I can't help out here much.
Somewhere in the game (or perhaps even the map editor), there is a setting that will disallow the map being saved (and edited) from the game. Be sure to check that. We don't want anyone to be tempted to take a look at it in the editor http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif . Also, I think, be sure to turn ruins off BEFORE you generate a map. If you don't, turning off ruins later doesn't do any good...they are already there 'cause you generated the map when the ruins switch was on. Otherwise, you will need some map specialists http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif . |
Re: Map Issue (s)
Deleting systems in the map editor causes screwy things to happen like warp lines reconnecting to new systems, and planets being moved to different systems. Has nothing to do with the mod. This is an old bug. Malfador never really got the kinks worked out of the editor. Nothing I know can be done to prevent it.
The unimportant issue is just that, unimportant. Not a lot can be gleaned from viewing the map on that screen. You really only get an idea of the shape of the quadrant. Not exactly cheat worthy information. Plus, if the game ower wants to cheat there are a lot easier and more informative ways he can do it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Geoschmo |
Re: Map Issue (s)
Gryphin, I have experianced what you describe with the Map Maker. After some testing I determined that the problem comes from having Warp Points(WP) in a system having nowhere to point to. By that, I mean the systems that you deleted had WP pointing to them from other systems. I also suspect that, unless you deleted the contents of those 2 systems, (planets & stars, etc.) that you have somewhere on your map systems with the contents of the deleted systems included with their own. You can tell this because the planets and stars will have their old system's names still.
What this means is NEVER delete entire systems without deleting the contents of the systems first! As to how to fix said map - I think it will take a shorter time to make a new one! Sorry, but it's true. |
Re: Map Issue (s)
Taz, Thanks!
That did it. The secrete is to delete the warp points at both ends and as many of the system objects as you like. Thanks again. |
