Roman numerals
I've heard many times some experienced modders say that roman numerals determine or are one of the factors that determine what is upgraded into what.
AFAIK that is wrong, upgrading is only determined by family and research, roman numerals only change the numeral is displayed the mini picture and have no other influence. For example engines and high-energy weapons go back to 1 in roman numeral and they seem to be upgraded properly (changing the name and abilities/damages, but not family or tech area). Has anyone tested this further? For example make a component that has its roman numeral grow down istead of up and see if its upgraded properly? |
Re: Roman numerals
you are correct ... it is the family and the location in the file.... ( must come afterwards ) for the upgrade/ latest..

Re: Roman numerals
Then it must be corrected in the modder's guide.

Re: Roman numerals
Actually, at least for facilities, the roman numeral must be greater than the predecessor in order for an upgrade to be valid. I gave mineral miner 1 roman 2 and min miner 2 roman 2. The upgrade does not appear on the list. The min miner 1 does get hidden when selecting show only latest, but it can not be upgraded to min miner 2. Now testing components.

Re: Roman numerals
Yeah, that's why some of the Proportions facilities have "unexpected" numbers, so they would upgrade in the most likely desired way.

Re: Roman numerals
For components, the roman numeral does not matter. The hide obselete and upgrade buttons do not care about the roman numeral.
