Possible solution for AS?

ive got this thought - AS is way more powerful than tractor/repulser beams. wouldnt it make some sense to limit it in the same way? as for now, frigates or mere escorts can "kill" dreadnoughts or baseships - doesnt make much sense if you ask me. any thoughts?

Yes i know, there is the limitation of doesnt affect master computers - but well, by the time you get them in PBW - the AS i mean - master computers are a little on the costly side.

yes this is an old topic, but aaron said about a new patch - what do you people think?

or perharps go as boarding does - doesnt affect shielded ships. or allow it to fight Security System components - like boarding does. like "200 damage against 150 security systems strenght"

Re: Possible solution for AS?

I have had a pet peeve with the AS for some time (every time I fight with the Abbidon, as a matter of fact http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif ). I kept the AS in my Highliner Mod, but set it so only Highliners and bases could mount it. Given the scale differences in my mod, that limits it enough to that it's not the goshawful weapon it is in the original game.

But... what is wrong with master computers ?
Especially after the Last patch.

Re: Possible solution for AS?

its easier, and faster, to bring in AS ships than MC ships. with MC being used the enemy will be handicapped by number and overrun anyway. also he'll spend some time researching and probably retrofitting while you would be researching your AS III and building new ships with these.

Re: Possible solution for AS?

Not really. Industry -> Computers gives you production/research/intelligence bonus facilities. Worth researching ASAP.

AS ships are useless aganst fighters and might have problems against ships with long range weapons and max. distance strategy.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">My stock strategy against the Abbidon. In tactical combat games, I do the "abbidon waltz" - come in 1/2 my movement, launch torps and missiles, and back away. Repeat until Abbidon ships are so much radioactive space dust. Very similar to the old 19th century tactic "Retire in Sections" you see in the movies.
