NOTE: Population mood doesn\'t appear to affect production

I'm in the middle of a TDM game and have just noticed that my population's mood doesn't appear to affect my production rate. This apparently contradicts what's in the FAQ, section 4.4.8.1.

Example: On my home planet, I've currently got a population of 1042M. According to the FAQ's table I should see an increase in my production rate for that planet of 20 percent. My base rate is 2000. Sure enough, on my production cue it says my rate is 2400--20 percent better than 2000.

HOWEVER, my population's mood is jubilant and according to the table, that should be another 20 percent (presumably taking me to 2800). But that's clearly not the case.

I've checked with another planet and the same holds. It's population is 104M--a 5 percent bonus. Yep, I'm at 2100 production for that planet, which is 5 percent. But there, too, the mood is jubilant, so I should see another 20 percent increase for that. But it's not there. I've got just the 5 percent.

So is this a bug? An error in the FAQ?

You confuse production rate and construction rate http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

The only case mood afeects construction is when your planet is rioting.

Mood only affects resource production; it has no affect on SYs, except that a Rioting planet has 0 build rate.

Also, happiness levels only give a 10% bonus per level. Happy is +10%, jubilant is +20%.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I know it only affects production. But as I say, my production rates did not reflect the population's mood, only its size. And one of the planets I used to illustrate didn't even have a SY so I know it's not that.

We're talking -resource- production..are you? Minerals, radioactives and organics. I have a feeling you're refering to the rate a planet can build something (with or without a SY)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Oh, OK. So you're referring to the colonies screen where you click on "production," correct? On the other hand, if the line above the planet's construction queue where it says "rate" refers to the how fast a planet can build. Have I got it right now?

If so, how can I tell what my base rate was for each planet in terms of production?

"Production" means production of resources, research and intel in SE4, nothing else. The game is very specific. SY rates are "construction". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Base "production" bonus rates can be found by adding up all the bonuses/penalties in the abilities tab. Clunky, but the only way to do it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">For base production, add up all the resource extractors, and multiply by the planet value.

For construction, it is either 2000 of each resource, or the sum of all your spaceyard rates.

for a 1042M jubiliant planet you would receive 120% construction (ships, facilities and stuff) because of the population +20% and 140% for resource production (minerals/organics/rads) as with +20% for population and +20% for mood.

Re: NOTE: Population mood doesn\'t appear to affect production

Sorry, population modifiers most definitely do affect yardless worlds.

In P&N PBW, there are modifiers that go down to -90% on worlds with very few people.

It takes these planets 8 turns to build a basic miner facility, and up to 40 turns for a spaceyard.

Once the population gets to a reasonable level, the build rates rise as well.
