Upgrade bug in AIC??

...or is it everywhere?

The thread "Proportions Question" and its discussion about upgrading fac's got me thinking about a bug I seem to have in my current AIC (that's about the only way I play Proportions).

The bug seems to be in the upgrade procedure itself. I can fill a construction queue with, let's say, Towns. Let's also say I have 5 Towns in said queue. Complete the construction of just 1 town and then add an Upgrade to Cities item to the bottom of the queue. Let the queue finish building the other 4 Towns so there are 5 towns total. Don't touch the Upgrade item and it will complete and upgrade ALL 5 Towns at the cost and time it takes to upgrade 1 Town to Cities.

Did anyone catch that? I'm sure someone has seen it before, haven't they? I'm not on my home computer right now but I believe I'm running Gold 1.84 and the lates ver of AIC....

Would it not take less time to upgrade than to build?

You're correct - it would take less time to upgrade than build. That's not the problem. The problem is that I can upgrade 5 facilities for the time and cost of upgrading 1 by just putting the upgrade in the queue as soon as possible! Doesn't matter if I'm going to Cities, Megalopolis, etc.....

Does that now make sense?

Re: Upgrade bug in AIC??

That's not the point. He's saying it would usually cost 2.5 times the cost of building the better facility to upgrade 5 facilities.

However he says that since there was only one completed lesser facility on the planet when the upgrade was requested, that the upgrade was carried out for the price of 0.5 the cost of building a better facility, but ended up upgrading all 5.

5 upgrades for the price of 1.

I checked for this, and thought the upgrade was labelled as upgrading one facility, and believed it. I hadn't confirmed that the actual right cost or effect was used in the situation described.

If true, it's a rather evil bug, especially for games with serious upgrades like Proportions has.

PvK has it correct. I can reproduce this every time....

Send in a bug report with a savegame (preferably in unmodded SE4) to MM.

Sure. Where do I send it? Is there a forum topic here or do I get the addy from MM's web site?

EDIT: I'm quite surprised noone else has seen (or noticed) this. Am I the only one?

Send it directly to MM. Sorry, don't remember the address. It is on MM site.

I did't notice this bug before because I usually keep just ine expensive Proportions/AIC item in queue. My loss, I can see now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I recall to have used the same method with intention to upgrade one facility after the other. But obviously I never have noticed the result, it was obscured by other micromanagement stuff. It is a bad exploit bug, very bad for PBW games based on proportions and similar derivates.

Already said, but don't forget to send a savegame of the unmodded stock game, otherwise MM will definetely ignore your mail. And use the term "exploit issue" in your subject.
