Once it took 4 or 5 turns to conquer one homeworld and it was unmodded game (except the map). I didin't drop any reinforcements so the troop numbers/strength must have been quite equal.

You don't get any experience destroying planets/capturing them. However, I am not sure if you get any XP's destroying fighters/satellites (which often are on planets).

I have to admit that single play SEIV sucks totally, but PBW rocks. Since my I dried my "wet ears" and moved into PBW from single play, I haven't played single except when creating a game for testing...

I haven't heard if it is fixed or not, but it is moving slowly with my computer also. It is rather annoying. Luckily it can be turned off. However, I would like to see it fixed.
