Re: Maintenance Formula

Lintman:

Yes, the Japan/US war in the Pacific didnt end too well for Japan, but the capacity for large scale annihilation of the enemy's industry didnt exist yet. ...

Re: Question regarding patches/updates and mods...

LintMan:

That would be GREAT if you wouldnt mind posting the changes. I'm not quite up to snuff on doing comparisons etc. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif I'm sure this...

Re: Question regarding patches/updates and mods...

Heh,

I guess I phrased it poorly http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif I want to know if the FIXES are going to require a new database. It wont do much good to have backup...

Re: Maintenance Formula

LintMan:

Hehe...yes, well, Carriers are probably close to that in terms of operation costs. Also remember that the maintenance costs also include the whole support infrastructure (planetside)...

Re: Weapons

Is there a bug in the Emissive Armors? We've found it to be generally useless, especially compared to its SE3 counterparts. Of course, its also FAR lower on the tech tree... ...

Question regarding patches/updates and mods...

How are patches and upgrades going to work? Are they going to continually be changing the Data and AI files? I certainly hope not. Many people, myself included, will be using modified data etc and...

Re: Some issues with fighter combat.

SeaWolf:

Sure, the formation can be handy, but I find that the movement it often takes to 'stay in formation' is very inefficient. Also, there is no 'swarm the enemy' formation ...

Re: Maintenance Formula

Lintman:

I believe the Upkeep amount is so high as a play balance mechanism. Personally, I think its about right. Operating a fleet is a VERY expensive operation TODAY. Who knows what the future...

Re: Some issues with fighter combat.

Seawolf:

That makes sense in theory, but you shouldnt have to have a micromanagement nightmare on your hands in order to succeed. The fighter Groups should not be configurable unless they come...

Re: AI Players and (lack of) Research

I've also finally been able to go through the AI Facilities file and alter a bit to encourage more research. Coupled with a small AI player bonus its finally starting to do well in some situations.

Re: Starting Planet Type question.

great.throwdini! et al:

YES! I agree %110!!! I cant believe that there is no option for a 'balanced' start. At the VERY least the Homeworlds should be identical. This is a HUGE gamebreaker if...

Starting Planet Type question.

Hi all,

I'm still chugging through the game and making my own heavily modified dataset...enjoying this game very much!

Ok, another question for the masses: What advantages do 'Rock' or...

Re: Suggestions for Malafador

Regarding Fighters:

I believe there is still a bug concerning non-shielded fighters. Apparently they all take the same damage from the weapon rather than the damage just fragging one fighter...

Re: AI Players and (lack of) Research

Baron:

True enough on the editing. I havent ventured into the AI scripting yet. I dont feel like I have a solid enough handle on the mechanics to start toying with the AI, yet.

Regarding...

AI Players and (lack of) Research

Hi all,

Ok, I've just finished my 5th game. Well, finished it as far as the game would have been remotely interesting...nothing left but a few hours of mop-up.

Overall I greatly enjoy the...

Re: Planetary bombardment(genocide)

Well, it is fairly easily to purge a planet as long as it isnt shielded. I kind of like the effect that MOO2 had with the reduction of most weapon's power when targeting a planet.

However, I...

Re: So whats the downside to Satellites?

Tomgs et al:

Oh dont get me wrong. I dont think they are 'overpowered' per se, but I am very cautious about items that dont require upkeep. Maybe my play style is different than most, but I...

Re: So whats the downside to Satellites?

Thanx all!

You guys bring up some good points, but the issue still remains in my mind. I mean, Who CARES if they cant be upgraded? You arent paying for them once they are built. So there are...

So whats the downside to Satellites?

Hi all,

I've been playing nonstop since I got the game and forming my own data set as I go. I'm a real stickler for play balance however and hate to see 'no brainer' decisions.

So far, we...

Re: Sorry to say ...more problems

Yes, I have seen the 'Range Error' as well in tactical combat. But I am playing with a heavily tweaked data set so I assumed it was just something I had accidentally screwed up. Hopefully its...

Re: Cultural Modifiers

LintMan:

Yeah, thats a possibility I suppose, but IMO it kind of invalidates the rest of the 'race building' costs etc. If you can get an advantage for nothing, why bother trying to 'point...

Re: Cultural Modifiers

Fireaxe et al:

I believe his question (and mine) is why would ever pick 'neutral' over a modifier that only gives pluses? Eg, Scientists only give a bonus to research and has no downside. So why...
