Your first guess is correct, with an air shield of X, any arrow that would hit the unit has an X% chance of doing nothing.

I tried it and it works fine, you must be doing something wrong... passwords are case sensitive.
Also don't forget, you are in both games on my server, if you are using different passwords for...
