I'm not sure what "higher or lower in consideration" means. As near as I can tell, the spells the AI tries are given ratings based on their likely effects. My assumption is the way to change this...

I've looked at the debug log data quite a bit and it doesn't really seem to help with understanding why the AI does what it does. It shows which spells it considers and what ratings it gives them,...

I didn't see it either. There's a section on the effects of magic paths on max age, but not on scales. Doesn't even give the decreased chance of afflictions (or is it only of disease) from Death...

To take the extreme example, with LA Ermor's death dominion you want to overtax everywhere. The peasants are all going to die anyway, get some money out of them while you can.

While support has been great, that log shows the last change in August and the last actual patch in February. That hardly addresses the question of whether there is still support.

No. Like many other things in Dominions it goes randomly by either nation ID or reverse nation ID.

In practice, it seems to know which I'd prefer and do the opposite more often.

I'm not sure what you mean by the first question? In battle the defender always goes first. Assuming this is an indy province, you'll always go second.

The primary use of forts is to recruit mages or to guard valuable provinces (chokepoints or very good magic sites). But mostly for the mages. Therefore, you usually want the cheaper/quicker forts....

Because Van and Eriu especially rely on thugs much more heavily. They use them where many other nations use troops and/or battle mages.

No. It's a discount. 80 gems to cast.
If you wish for gems, you get 25 of each gem type. In theory, you alchemize them all to pearls. 25*6 = 150/2 = 75 + 25 pearls = 100 pearls for which you paid...
