Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

Sorry, but exactly how many early helicopters does Germany have to make this heliborne invasion of Switzerland possible and how are these troops organised? What heavy weapons do they have?

I ask...

Re: EU v NATO or instead of NATO

With respect I think you are underestimating what "some folk" within the EU actually want.

Cannot say I remember any even very slightly warm feelings for France in my days in the British Army,...

EU v NATO or instead of NATO

Okay, so I hope I this will not get me banned, but I am going to follow the advice I was given by Andy/MOBHACK and discuss this here from a game/military point of view. Please bear in mind that as...

EU v NATO

I hope the people who run this discussion forum will forgive me for this, but many leaders in the EU, often non-elected, want the EU to supplant NATO (indeed recent statements in the UK by the...

Re: MBT's

Political rants are completely off-topic for these forums.

There are other websites where you can express any such opinions.[/QUOTE]

I am sorry you think this is a mere political rant, but...

Re: The Western Way of War today.

In game terms it is generally very easy for a Western force to win a defensive battle against the AI.

I have set up games where a reinforced Company of Royal Marines, with some Heavy MG's, etc, in...

Re: MBT's

I doubt that any military in the world tells more of the truth about kit and what it can do than they have to. Of course some will under, and others over, state.

Estimates are often the best one...

Re: The Western Way of War today.

Gas, Gas, Gas!

Had the highly dubious pleasure of doing the Portland Down battle run in the British Army many moons ago, which was the highest level NBC training back then. Couple of days in a...

Re: The Western Way of War today.

Your Tarawa example is exactly what I was trying to say about WWII and WWI scale losses. I was in Africa before, during and after the first Gulf War, so did not pay it as much attention as I...

Re: The Western Way of War today.

Agree with everything you say about lack of radios and control, but you can still find WWII Infantry units, especially in NW Europe who suffered casualties rates as heavy as those in WWI.

Large...

Re: The Western Way of War today.

I wonder if overall losses are not also impacted by the length of the frontline and the amount of time used for high intensity fighting. If D-Day had taken place earlier and the front had been longer...

Re: The Western Way of War today.

Nope not true, but it would be if you said deaths. Mind you a bloke wounded enough to keep him out of the fight is, at least, as useless to a Commander as a dead soldier...

Re: The Western Way of War today.

I don't think, for moment that Western forces actually select who they will wage war against, for one thing our political types are far, far, too clueless for that,

On the other hand , these...

The Western Way of War today.

One thing scenario designers need to look at in modern warfare is what is, and what is not, acceptable to Western democracies in modern warfare.

Contrary to popular belief the casualties in...

Re: Marines in Germany?

Given roughly equal weapons, training and technology very few assaults in the real world will work well at much below a 3 to 1 ratio in favour of the attacker.

As I think is noted in the game...

Re: British Naval gun support 1945-1982

Worth noting that in WWII British destroyers several times engaged German tanks over open sights and a 4.7 or 4.5 inch AP shell hitting a tank is going to spoil their whole day.

Equally Battleship...
