Re: Infantry firing from inside APCs

Well, next time they come out with a patch couldn't they at least give APCs an extra machinegun or two to represent it?

Re: SAM Effectivness

I think that helos should stick around, because I'm sure certain attack helicopters, like the Apache, are tough enough to stick around. There wouldn't be too many planes, though, that would stay...

Infantry firing from inside APCs

There are a lot of APCs with firing ports made for infantrymen to fire their weapons through. The WWII German Skdfz series had firing ports, and so do most modern APCs. BMPs have a kind of machine...

Re: SAM Effectivness

There is a problem here, though. Any plane that gets hit with a MANPAD is probably going to be too beat up to keep flying a later turn. I remember that in the old SP3 there was a "morale check" where...

Re: Improvements you want to WinSPMBT

Well, I heard of ATF and it looks really nice. But it dosen't have what WinSPMBT has, mainly the ability to play almost any battle in recent history and a good representation of morale. FPS aren't...

Re: Question about unit organization...

I think Steel Panthers 3 had it but WinSPMBT dosen't. It'd be really convenient, though.

Re: winMBT games wanted

No purchase restrictions. I'm OK with no air, but just a question, does that include helicopters?

I'm taking Russia.

Re: Anti Helicopter mines

Has this ever been used before? I've heard of terrorist taking an SA-7 and setting a timer on it to intercept civillian flights, but who's used an anti-helo mine before? Is it some kind of prototype?...

Re: Tactics.

ATGMs are worthless if you know what you're doing. Usually, the enemy will have too many dug-in MGs for you to try a pure infantry assault, but mortars are good here. ATGMs, once they've been fired,...

Re: Improvements you want to WinSPMBT

I guess, but it would be a pretty cool idea. There needs to be some way to represent the abilities of different unit commanders beyond morale and experience, which are kind of a superficial way to...

Re: Improvements you want to WinSPMBT

Still, computer AI has advanced enough for any game to let the smaller units do some thinking for themselves. There's great potential here, but it's too bad that no big company is picking up the idea...

Re: Forest idea

This is a big deal that I thought should have been added a long time ago. I was surprised that they didn't put it into the very first Steel Panters, and I think it should be the first thing they put...

Re: experimental weapons systems like OICW

I know this is kind of off-topic, but does anyone know what the Commanche's replacement will be or what it will look like? Those Apaches are getting old, and it takes maybe a decade to design a new...

Re: Improvements you want to WinSPMBT

Narwan, I think it's crazy that you have to direct every single unit's fire. I've seen a lot of real-time command simulations where individual units do most of the menial tasks themselves. Of course,...

Re: SAM Effectivness

By "destroyed", do you mean damaged or shot down? If a plane gets hit by a small warhead like one carried on a MANPAD, it will probably stay in the air, but it's likely to be mission-killed. Same...

Re: Scenario designers- how much research do you d

Thanks, everyone. I'm just really interested in really obscure battles, like the ones in Afghanistan and the third world, and it's extremely hard to find details on them. But thanks for the advice...

Re: Improvements you want to WinSPMBT

What do you think of the other ideas, though? Is there any way to represent the kind of ambigious information a commander always recieves? It might also be interesting if they put a time limit on...

Re: Scenario designers- how much research do you d

Has anyone heard of Google Earth? It's a program that's supposed to give anyone satellite photos of anywhere on the planet totally free. Has anyone tried it? Is it any good? It'd really simplify...

Re: Improvements you want to WinSPMBT

I guess you're right about the fatigue thing. An infantryman can only dash 100 or so meters so it dosen't really make a difference to the game. Still, the ideas about "fog of war" and putting the...

Re: Scenario designers- how much research do you d

Hoplitis, I heard that's especially an issue with the Arab-Isreali wars. It can get ridiculous. I've heard that they often understate their losses in certain battles by 9/10!

I wish I had acess to...

Re: How to use Syrian SAM-aamissiles

Do you think that they're really worth the price? 100 points for a 10% hit chance? I usually don't buy long-range SAMs. Stingers and Strelas are super-cheap, and they'll usually get a few hits in if...

Improvements you want to WinSPMBT

The game's great, and it's probably the most realisitc war sim out there. Still, being a video game, it falls short on some of the more important parts of war. In the past, it was hard to cram all...

Re: Scenario designers- how much research do you d

Thanks, Pyros. It's just that I'm into really obscure battles in general, and it's almost impossible to find coverage for them. But I'm satisfied with making random maps and hypothetical battles....
