Royal Marines

The Royal Marines should be in Company, not Squadron, formations.

40, 42 and 45 Royal Marines Commandos are each a roughly battalion sized formation organised in in Coy, not Squadron formations,...

Re: COIN Aircraft?

The Royal Marines are a Brigade group sized formation. Don't think they were ever used as a division even in WWII.

The largest Royal Marines/Commando formation I can think of in WWII was a...

Re: British Naval gun support 1945-1982

With regard to the 9 X 16 inch guns carried on HMS Nelson and Rodney, it should be noted that HMS Rodney played a major part in the destruction of the German battleship Bismarck. A recent underwater...

Re: COIN Aircraft?

I do see the point, it was just that Sea Harrier was the major fixed wing support to UK amphibious and Royal Marine ops until it was retired.

At the start of the Falkland's War in 1982, 20-22...

Re: COIN Aircraft?

I always wondered why British sea Harriers are in COIN aircraft?

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

Agreed, if allied troops were outside Germany.

I don't think captured German scientists had all that much affect on the early A bombs. Germans who left because of Nazi religious and racial policy...

Re: British Forces since 2000

The British Army (and Royal Marines) faces the problem that on the one hand large scale armoured battle is back on the agenda after years of counter insurgency stuff, because some members of NATO...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

FRES has been one of the largest British MOD disasters of recent times (not a small thing to say). To be fair it was complicated by large scale UK involvement in Afghanistan and making any resulting...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

Question for Tank experts (me I was an Infantry soldier):

There is a sort of link from WWII British Tanks, that spent much of the war out gunned and out Armoured by German Tanks, to the Centurion...

I hope that RecruitMonty will be happy to see his interesting mod generating discussion and interest on here. I very strongly suspect the more interest and discussion the more people might take a...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

That German jet bomber is in WinSP WW2 for sure.

Like most of the advanced weapons the Germans were working on late in the war it was a case of too little and too late and with not enough fuel to...

Re: British Naval gun support 1945-1982

HMS Belfast with 12 x 6 inch guns was operational until 1963 and in reserve until 1967. She is now a museum ship on the Thames in London.

Belfast could fire up to 96 6inch shells a minute from her...

Map request Kohima 1944

I know it is a WWII battle, but I think perhaps more people look at this than the WWII forum. So I am repeating my request here for a large map of the Kohima area C.1944, for WinWWII.
Thanks if...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

Had I been in Churchill's position when Hitler invaded Russia, I would not have risked one single British ship or sent Stalin as much as a second hand pair of British Army boots while British forces...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

To try to understand WWII you have to know that in 1939:

Hitler was in some respects not very bright, including his moronic hatred of Jewish people.

Italy and Japan, generally, sensibly, did...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

I should perhaps say I am not against this mod in any way (I have even downloaded it). I am just against the idea Hitler could have invaded Britain, or have forced her to make peace.

If I were...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

A good deal of the Royal Australian and Royal New Zealand navies were actually not in their home waters in 1939-40, but supporting the RN in the Med and Atlantic, etc. Canadian troops were also in...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

Without Churchill, UK might, or might not, have tried to make peace with Germany, after the defeat of France, since Hitler certainly offered it.

What Hitler stood no chance of doing was forcing...

Re: WinSP MBT: Das Reich

The Germans could not have invaded Britain in 1940. The Royal Navy was simply far too large and too powerful for the Germans to have had any chance of success, even more so after the heavy German...
