Re: Can someone tell me about Machaka?

You are probably right in part, but I doubt that is the whole of it. MR really does not matter during indy expansion and though some may stare themselves blind on the price tag of the hunters, I...

Re: Can someone tell me about Machaka?

You are paying far too much for too little gain. With the scales you have there, you should be able to hit 15+ provinces, as well as a couple of castles, the first year without any bless whatsoever....

Re: Can someone tell me about Machaka?

You seem a bit hung up about the spine devils.

Please consider that 40 of them represent a major investment at the stage of the game you are talking about. Since they cost 3 slaves and a blood 2...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

Because I still see the helmet as useful at construction 4 - I have used it reasonably often in games after having researched past construction 2. And if it were bumped to 4, I would see the axe as...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

Very well, if it cannot be done, the aesthetics of it is rather moot.

Looking at the axe, it really does not seem that bad in itself - fear is a reasonably powerful effect. It seems to me that at...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

You can't remove the pillage bonus from the axe.[/QUOTE]
My thinking was more in the line of effectively removing the axe and creating a new weapon with fear and the same look, but no pillage bonus....

Re: Magic Items under CBM

I did not intend to say that it was fine, merely that I did not really understand what you found wrong with it. My understanding now is that you want the fear but could not care less about the...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

While I have not played Fomoria completely without earth bless, I have done so with an E4 bless and that worked out ok. 2 extra reinvigoration from a bless does not really change much about the above...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

I cannot say that I have used the axe, but then I am not that good at pillaging. However that may be, if the ability is worthless as you say, why even keep the axe in the game?

Apologies, I...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

Neither of those provide you with reinvigoration, so they are not suitable replacements for a Wraith Sword.

If all you are after is damage, a Wraith Sword is not what you need, but there are other...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

The Fire and Frost Brand are popular not just because they are cheap, but also because they fill a niche - they provide offensive crowd control while at the same time being able to deal at least...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

In most cases you are probably correct, but I can certainly think of exceptions.

You are not really doing that much damage with the standard and the defence rating is very bad. For strong...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

So, because death has powerful summons available it should also have powerful magic items?

I do not agree and moreover, your comparison is rather suspect for several reasons.
Wraith Swords are...

Re: Magic Items under CBM

The first question that springs to my mind here, is whether you have thought through what kind of balance you have in mind.

Dominions is an intricate game and consequently so is trying to balance...

Re: Nations under CBM 1.6

Be careful about what the nation-restrictions do to the balance.
As an example, EA Agartha gets quite a boost if there are no aquatic nations in the game.

Re: Protection and Defense

Some shield-modding seems to confirm my beliefs.

I modded the machakan hide shield (armour number 105) to encumbrance -2 (to eliminate fatigue from the machakan warriors), defence 20 and...

Re: Protection and Defense

Exactly, it is called "Current Defence and Parry skill", not "Current Defence skill" or "Current Defence, Blessed, Experience, X and Parry skill" - parry is singled out.

The magical shields you...

Re: Protection and Defense

I cannot offer any substantial evidence, but I can tell you why I think that shields work as I said.

There are essentially two reasons for my line of though:
1. The description in the manual in...

Re: Protection and Defense

Err, no, or rather yes to the last postulate and no to the earlier "vanishingly unlikely" one. :)

There are several SC chassis that start out with extremely high defense and routinely sport well...

Re: Protection and Defense

As far as I know, the formula is
ap + np - (ap*np/40)
where ap is protection from armour and np natural protection.

There are different protection values for the head and body slots, though, so...

Re: Event militia - who gets what?

At least in EA, Arcoscephale receives Cardaces and EA Atlantis receives Deep Ones.

I had a extremely fitting incident with Atlantis once - the same turn I started to besiege the Oceanea capital I...

Re: New Nation: The Monestary of the Way

I agree with Squirrelloid about most things.

But I want to stress that archers will be a problem as far as I can see. I was unclear, but my intention was not to say that the troops are useless...

Re: New Nation: The Monestary of the Way

My first impression is that the nation needs a power-up.

The capital gem income is a little on the light side, even if you place the nation in the late era and the Wu Jen being tied to a capital...

Re: Hydra Tamer

Hydra tamers should be able to safely lead hydras on raids into miasma-covered provinces. It is not much, but at least it is something.
