if you're on a rush, use a cheap truck or utility vehicle to lead the column so the loaded units don't get ambushed, this way you can dismount them from the vehicles if there's a minefield or enemy...

But then they wouldn't defend themselves from an infantry attack, or soft vehicles, IMO the current way it behaves is good enough. ATG will fire much more often at armor than soft.

Alternatively, you could get some maps on the area if you want a much more precise one, you can get amazing detail in winSPMBT if you can use the tools at your disposal. :)
