I like to tinker with the game scenarios and I noticed the same thing.
If you delete all the AI forces except the HQ, once you buy new formations you sometimes end up with unit B0 commanding and A0...

In my copy there was no problem with the background and icons 3976, 3977 were of a BMD (?)
I reinstalled the game and I see the correct icons now.
Maybe (?) I missed an update when installing it...

Units 042, 043, 047, 048 (T-80U) & 050 (T-80UD) have the wrong winter/desert icons; 3976, 3977 which are of a BMD(?).

Easy solution to the sound problem: Install only the 6.0 consolidation patch.
BTW I tried the "set weapon sound to zero" method suggested above and it didn't work.
The new Battle.shp only changes...

Not only are most of the existing ones terrible but the same icon is used to represent various French, Italian, Japanese, you name it AA guns that look nothing...

I do use them occasionally. As for their effectiveness lets just say that it's a cool way to blow up a bunker!!! :laugh:
An engineer squad or a tank gun are far more effective in bunker busting....
