I agree that using this weapon to fire 9rd bursts is unrealistic. But giving up the auto fire capablity also seems unsuitable. Perhaps a 3rd burst best models to use of this weapon on...

Just don't spend them. The AI will build it's force in proportion to what your force value IS, not what it could be. Unspent support points will be lost once you start the scenario. Unspent repair...

To make the mission more like a real delaying action you can adjust the value and position of all of the victory hexes during your support units purchase by going into the view map screen.

I find another good way is defend with reverse slope and point blank tactics. Most german tanks will be brewed up before they get a chance to shoot.
