Re: Which Nations Are Best for Turtling?

Dear Cthulhu of R'lyeh

Atlantis just want to inform You that we share Your analysis completely. In the late age of Dominions You are absolutely the only under-water power. For ourselves we have...

Re: The Virtue

I experimented with it some time ago and it worked decently, but I have not had any opportunity to test it in a real game, so take it for what its worth.

Based on my experiments I recommend having...

Re: The Virtue

At least my recommendation is based on my direct experience with the Virtue both with dom 10 and no death and with dom < 9 and D5.

A D5 Virtue without extra dominion is hit more often by indies...

Re: The Virtue

And how long did it stay there?
As mentioned by vfb, cold is a bit safer than heat through the first year. As far as I can tell, the likelihood for temperature change is influenced by dominion level...

Re: The Virtue

Knowing that the pretender will be used with Arcoscephale helps, but to get the most out of her, you need to consider how you want to play the nation - and there are different strategies to chose...

Re: Better Know a Pretender: The Virtue

First a rather important omission in my former post: The Virtue needs dom 10 to be able to expand properly without equipment or extra magic pics - at least in my opinion. The difference between +4...

Re: Better Know a Pretender: The Virtue

While I agree with most of what you are saying, I find that you downplay the Virtue's province grabbing abilities a bit too much.

She certainly is no Wyrm, but as long as she is handled...

Re: Curse of Stones

It is a very good spell.

And regarding the battle with Machaka I find it likely that it was cast by your enemy, too. At least I absolutely love using it when I play Machaka - there is something...

Re: Worst Nations in Each Era

Well, apart from troglodytes you are quite right. I rarely find them a problem, though, as they are not that hot under the water to start with and really bad as soon as they are in a cold dominion.

Re: Worst Nations in Each Era

Look I do not want to give the wrong impression here. I do not consider EA Atlantis the most powerful nation ever, but I do also not consider it hopeless. I am all for critique of it - it is often a...

Re: Worst Nations in Each Era

Looking at it, the above seems unreasonable.

Living Pillars being elite units does not mean that they should be used for everything. Indeed, a situation where someone is spamming MR spells is...

Re: EA Ermor revisited.

I must be missing something huge, because however I look at this, it just does not add up.

The pretender costs too many points. If you exchange one of the non-earth magic paths with fire, it does...

Re: MA Man - Making the best of a bad deal

If we are talking expansion into independent provinces that is essentially correct - knights are mostly overkill for this. Otherwise not so much.

You do not need to have production 3 to amass a...

Re: MA Man - Making the best of a bad deal

I have a lot of comments, but I will try to limit myself a bit at least.

Man can do quite a lot with battle magic and a lot of is of the kind that interacts and combines well with national...

Re: MA Tien Chi tips

Of course you cannot just field large communions of frail mages and expect to win, but neither can you field just Tartarians and expect to win. (And do not forget that small communions of cheap mages...

Re: Working underwater without gills

Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but that seems not quite right. Nature does not have that many evocations to begin with, but sleep cloud works fine, as do poison cloud and stream of life. It is...

Re: Working underwater without gills

Just watch out for all those poisonous weapons.

Also, you need to have access to assassins and water magic for this to be easy. If you do, it is indeed an effective way of taking out water...

Re: MA Tien Chi tips

With the many cheap, recruit-everywhere astral mages T'ien Ch'i has access to, I really have a hard time seeing the lack of late-game offensive power.

Those same astral mages are very good...

Re: How should word "C'tis" be pronounced?

Nice. I didn't notice this before. Quite probably they're really related.[/QUOTE]
They are the same.
"Bean Sidhe" is modern Irish spelling of "banshee". You can also see it spelled "banshie", "bean...

Re: MA Argatha - go punch a mountain

Well, if you are that heavy into nature, why not go for the Lord of Rebirth? He generates an absolutely absurd number of gems in CBM.

Re: MA Argatha - go punch a mountain

I sort of have to disagree here as long as we are talking Baalz' CBM-pretender. You only need one of each for him and that is well within reason. For the rest you use summoned nature mages.

Re: MA Argatha - go punch a mountain

Is there anyone besides me who likes to send out a reasonably kitted out Ancient Lord as early as possible?

With a 2h Sword of Sharpness, Black Steel Helmet and Plate he cannot take provinces on...

Re: Peg Castle?

You are most probably right.

Castles and fortifications in mountains do tend to have high defence in Dominions, but the hillfort definitely has lower than the peg castle so you have a definite...

Re: Peg Castle?

"Peg" can in some instances refer to a wooden stake. Therefore, I think a peg castle is somewhat similar to a wooden palisade, but extended to be an actual castle.

Regarding "Tel" I think...

Re: Best Turmoil Luck Nations

For what its worth I actually did fairly well in MP some time ago with this (tie with Niefelheim). Be advised, however, that none of us were very good, so I do not think that it means all that much....
