Re: War of Final Resolution

I love your passion. A few armored humvees around a flank usually takes care of any artillery within the first ten turns. It also helps me to use Z-fire on hills and rough hexes if you have any shots...

Re: Operation Iraqi Freedom - Swedish' taskforce

When playing as western armies, helicopters are very useful. You won't get shot at at all by the enemy if you spot them at a distance and take advantage of your long range tank guns and artillery.

Re: WinSPMBT version 7.0 Upgrade patch

I can't edit my post, but I forgot to add that my only disappointment is that I no longer have my 13 point FN FAL insurgents.

I still consider insurgents one of the best units in the game though....

Re: Best SP Map + Top Map

The ANZAC campaign for WinSPWII- I don't have a copy anymore, sorry- had some extremely detailed historical maps. Photos were used to recreate building damage, for example. You should ask Pyros.

Re: WinSPMBT version 7.0 Upgrade patch

Thanks for the patch, Don and Andy. The timed objectives offer a lot of room for creativity. The OOBs have really been updated as well.

Cheap infantry forces are a lot more balanced with this...

Re: Turkey's Lightening Shield Operation

The BTRs are already quite effective and annoying. But you can try placing infantry in bunkers or whatever, or mount them onto a truck, so that they pop out when their carrying vehicle is destroyed....

Re: Turkey's Lightening Shield Operation

Good plan. When I do that though my MGs are spotted pretty quick. I guess if I put the effort into micromanagement I could reveal/withdraw the units every turn so the enemy didn't have a chance to...

Re: Philosophical discussion regarding tank berms

They were already pretty easy pickings against AP shells. Technically things like bunkers don't need to be represented as fortification class units at all. They're the same as entrenched infantry...

Re: Philosophical discussion regarding tank berms

If it's buried then it wouldn't be able to move without destroying the entrenchment, and should be a fortification. Berms can vary, but from the official history at least it sounds like they were...

Re: Turkey's Lightening Shield Operation

5136 to 936 this time, minor victory.

I went for three forces this time: one in the town, one on the northern hills and one to take out the mortars on foot. The mortar group took the heaviest...

Red vs nigeria/chad/france, Jan-Feb 2013, 200 missions

Red vs nigeria/chad/france, 6625 vs 55000 pts (although it didn't seem to make much difference). 200 missions, 200x160 desert maps. Jan-Feb 2013.

Initially bought only 13 point FN FAL insurgents,...

Re: Philosophical discussion regarding tank berms

Yes, it could be, an is, incorporated into some OOBs.

I'm just talking about how things currently work otherwise. If it's possible to hit the turret on an entrenched tank then logically it should...

Philosophical discussion regarding tank berms

During the Gulf War it was common for Abrams to shoot entirely through tank berms (WinSPMBT sandbag entrenchment) to penetrate the T-72 on the other side. This means it should be possible in the game...

Re: Is CM Artillery too destructive?

Important day in MBT history. Thanks for the fix.

Good point. I learned something.

At the same time the game underestimates just how bad some guerilla/insurgent type forces are. The...

Re: Is CM Artillery too destructive?

I actually agree with the changes, I was just referring to the original post and its suggestion that CMs should be toned down. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I don't think there is any combat...

Re: Is CM Artillery too destructive?

If there are any really overpowered weapons in the game it's the infantry weapons, which are hundreds of times more effective than they are in real life if you take each turn to be 3 minutes worth of...

Re: Is CM Artillery too destructive?

AFAIK, the way the game is coded, all AP rounds given to artillery represent cluster rounds. If they have an AP pen but no cluster rounds that just means they aren't issued any AP rounds.

I've...

Re: USA/USAF Units in USMC OOB

Re: USA/USAF Units in USMC OOB

Thanks for information on the hardcoded restrictions. Does sound more difficult than I had thought. Sorry if I get needlessly smartassed on these things.

But I can move the bombers into another...

Re: USA/USAF Units in USMC OOB

AFAIK very few scenarios use level bombers.

This game will be around for a while still, I think it's worth it to create the Air/UN OOB.

It just seems like it would be so much better if...

Re: Semi off topic question

I sent an email to the UK embassy asking what organization handles security at UK embassies. But I have no response so far and was probably put on some terrorist watchlist, oh well.
