Some combat spells are never used?

it seems to me that some combat spells, especially close combat damage spells are almost never used, because if a mage gets in close combat he is dead anyway.

is this a trend or does it change...

alt tab error

sometimes, on some machines in some circumstances, when you alt tab out of dom2 or 3 the UI will be borked when you tab back in. is this preventable?

is it possible to install the server on a linux box that does not have graphics packages etc. installed, and run the server through putty, i.e. text only?
