I've tried that in the game. Sometimes it works OK. Meaning, they spot some units and don't get shot down all the time. And if you keep them back near your lines to minimize flak, they don't...

No, the MG08/18 was an improved version of the WWI-era MG08, while the MG81 was a WWII design (specifically, the last 8mm aircraft MG).

You may want to look into the ranges some more - there are MANY MG34 and MG42, with different ranges, depending upon use.

Range 12 means 600m (12 hexes at 50m each), so those are probably the LMG...

IIRC, "real" water units (ship classes) can.

OK, I have one save that should good enough, if rather too unwieldy.
There are 40 air attacks plotted, the first one shows the bug, then some don't, then it depends on what the earlier ones did to...

Seems like it only happens with off-axis attacks.
