Re: Russian Invasion of the Baltic States

The Gods forbid that ever actually happening. I don't think the Baltics are defensible by conventional Western forces, most certainly not today, that leaves little choice but defeat and withdrawl or...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

Why?
It's hardly WW III and the aircraft is still undergoing operational testing and upgrades. Also chances are the maintenance is still primarily supervised by contractors and spare parts are...

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

Hey !
I represent that remark !

As long as a female can meet the same physical standards as the males I don't see a problem (and only 10-25% can). I TOTALLY hate the idea of any sort of dual...

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

And that is precisely why that lesson was taught the way it was. Doing things that can get you killed ( or your Cpl killed) are frowned upon :)

I do not envy the job recruit training NCO's do...

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

Yes I do remember doing that, although I don't think I ever 'lost' that.

I do remember, as a teenager, very early on in training leaving my rifle three yards away while I answered a call of...

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

Interesting. Yep, it was always just the SLR, or, as Arrse would have it, 'The Rifle'. There again not everyone on here is even British.

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

For anyone who does not know much about small arms, the small 5.56mm round mainly relies on high velocity to kill or wound, but that velocity falls off fairly rapidly with range and it also lacks...

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

While I am, sort of, on this subject it has been known, for many years, certainly since the mid 1990's, that the 'ideal' military round is somewhere between 7.62mm (too large and heavy) and 5.56mm...

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

As the British Army always says, "Any fool can be uncomfortable."

If you need a GPMG, you carry a GPMG, or whatever kit you need. You do not waste effort on a weapon, if you can get the same...

Re: British Special Forces small arms 2017

Why don't British Special Forces, and associated units, use the L85A2 SA80?

Well, these days it is not reliability, and certainly not accuracy, the SA80 A2 performs very well under all conditions....

This is a roughly battalion sized force.

It is responsible for the security of UK nuclear subs, bases and missiles. It also provides RM detachments for...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

Lol.

I suspect, these days it would be more likely to be allied task forces working together, a bit like the British Pacific Fleet (Task Force 57) off Japan in 1945 working alongside the USN.

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

Well if you are talking about RN Aircraft Carriers facing off against a near peer I don't see it as all that likely, without allies.

The only, non allied, near peers to UK in terms of...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

I don't agree with everything said in this article.

(In particular it does not address the potential conflicts of mainly RAF 'owned' aircraft operating from RN carriers).

F-35B the right choice...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

Yes I did wonder if that had something to do with the very early USMC deployment. In British service F-35B will have to do CAP for fleet defence. In the same way Sea Harrier did until it was...

And yet, if you read the very long report in my last post, it clearly states that, as of now F-35's are, even when working, and they are not up to their availability expectations, they are not able...

Windows 10 is much less private than earlier offerings. It is actually designed to gather information about you and your internet habits, to help make microsoft money, of course.

There is a lot of...

Re: Is winSPMBT Compatible w/ Windows 10?

Actually I much prefered Vista to Windows 10, but there again I only use it on computers and don't have, or want, smart phones or tablets.

Re: Is winSPMBT Compatible w/ Windows 10?

Yes I use it with Windows 10 (and it occasionally does not load as it should). BTW, to say I hate and detest Windows 10 would be a considerable understatement.
