Re: The Red OOB T-55M

They would absolutely have to go for elaborately planned flank/defilade shots. Seven (not five) tanks would have to work together in a pincer, with five on frontal charge suicide duty and the other...

Re: The Red OOB T-55M

Well, maybe not at 1000 meters head on, but if you distract their opfire with a flanking maneuver and take them from behind that would do it.

But then I guess you would have to use tactics and it...

Drats.

In theory, with sufficient bullets in the air accuracy is not important.

Interesting, I read that at some point but didn't recall it. I guess that there isn't enough room left on...

The Red OOB T-55M

72 points. Game-wise, that's barely the cost of a Sabot round. Why, why why would anyone ever buy another tank?

Red OOB insurgent band. 13 points per infantry unit with FN FAL. Great morale and...

Re: Battle lengths: MBT versus real life

Like with Mobhack's post that's exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. At first I thought that MBT might vastly overestimate the accuracy and lethality of infantry weapons. But from this...

Re: Battle lengths: MBT versus real life

Interesting magazine, I think I'll download a few.

Spot on. With a few buddies I could run a command post ex myself. MBT just has better graphics.

It really is a comprehensive tactical...

Re: the AI

I think you're gonna have to give more details Paulo. The AI seems to follow Soviet military doctrine. Which is, throw everything at the enemy and hope they don't have enough ammo. The one brilliant...

It doesn't bother me that much. Thanks for the idea however.

So essentially, MBT combat mechanics- shooting, sighting, accuracy, etc- are accurate once you've actually contacted the...

Re: Battle lengths: MBT versus real life

Alright, that's fine. Zerg rush tactics work with infantry too.

Re: Battle lengths: MBT versus real life

But I don't have the super hacking skills needed to throw turn limits into the triple digits Don. I was just asking your professional military opinion as to whether a company level engagement would...

Battle lengths: MBT versus real life

Reading battle AARs, it seems real company size engagements take several hours. In MBT though the typical battle is only about an hour. I'm curious, would a scenario designer need to set the turn...

the viets retreat/disperse normally for me. maybe you accidentally set morale really high. either that or the sheer mass of them with overlapping unit HQs gives them good rally.

there's also a...

Re: China assault vs US, 2001, 65000 pts

Exactly. Kind of destroys any single player game above 10000 points. But I was bored and felt like using a gamey "strategy". It actually seems easier to win against the AI when heavily outnumbered...

China assault vs US, 2001, 65000 pts

That's 65000 points US AI, 20000 China (me).

China buys around:

10 reservist infantry companies
30 Type 58 AAMG
15 WA021 155mms batteries
Lots of ammo trucks
10 Z-5 helos
Two tank...

Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)

that's not fair, as the soviets you should have ten times as many tanks

Oops. Never downloaded the update.

I'm not reporting it as a problem, just testing. I'll patch and get back.

Roger.

I downloaded and installed the free version from the Shrapnel website for the sake of it. I'm running Windows 7.

It's not showing up as far as I can tell. Attached are Screen1.jpg and...

Re: This doesn't make sense.

I've been playing SP since I was twelve. Before this thread I was confounded as to why a pickup truck couldn't carry 113 infantrymen.

June 91 US vs USSR- 100 points US, 65000 points USSR

Just what it says on the tin, computer versus computer. USSR advances for a few turns, knocking out several T-80s and BMPs with well aimed Buratino and Uragan fire. Around turn 5 the US headquarters...

Re: Thanks for the update

If you don't mind, SPMBT team, I have a dumb question about pricing in the Soviet OOB. Most Soviet tanks seem to be priced 2/3rds of the equivalent US unit. However this only gives them a 1:1.5...

Re: Chechnyan Scenarios

SPIII had a good scenario for the assault on Grozny. You can find the game somewhere and load it on Dosbox.

Re: Thanks for the update

Oops, my bad. Either way works.

Update: I've been playing Red vs Peru 5 missions and I got 4 draws and 1 minor win. The AI has defeated my strategy. All they had to do was buy less aircraft.
