Hardly any nation ever needs blood stones to forge dwarven hammers.
Either you get to earth-2. Then you can forge dwarven hammers with earth boots. Or you don't. Then you can't make bloodstones....

It depends on the province numbers. The battle is resolved always in the province with the higher number. Just open up your mp game go through all the battles and look at the numbers...

I disagree a bit about the SCs part.
Imo you shouldn't give up armies for SCs. Just like there are army killing tools there are SC killing ones.
Don't build big armies and expect to win though,...

It's questionable to rely on the manual for battle strategy on any case imo.
You might have a relatively good plan in "theory" i.e. worked out from the manual, that does fail completely in practice...

Hmm, afaik a mage with enemies in melee range will be forced to do strike instead of spellcasting half of the time (something along the lines of opportunity attack in DnD - spellcasting works best...
