Re: SP New Game Idea

http://advancedgaming.biz/index.php?cevent=page.view&id=71

They've made several new versions of Harpoon since the original release. Are you living under a rock or something?...

Re: Operation Camping Trip

Exit hex:

What I do in situations like this is create a long line of water, impassable terrain, minefields, barbed wire and dragons teeth, or SOMETHING along the edge of the map to prevent the...

Re: How do real life armies clear cities?

Thanks for all the information. It's interesting to hear that in real life an advance against an urban enemy force is almost impossible to do without a major advantage in numbers and firepower. Of...

How do real life armies clear cities?

At present, my main infantry-clearing tactic is to buy a bunch of jeeps and run them through the enemy defences until they get shot at and reveal the position of the enemy. Some people say that, if...

Re: Tactical CS?

As long as the unit you are attacking has a very low rally rating (or even a rally rating of 0), this CS idea works because the target never recovers from the supression. This is realistic. Tear gas...

Re: Improvement proposal I - OP fire draining

There's a simple solution. In real life, tanks rarely waste SABOT or HEAT ammo on targets like trucks and jeeps. Tanks could just be made to fire only MGs on thin-skinned targets. This way,...

Re: My Strike aircraft targeting MY ammo trucks?!?

This is a good idea. How about AAA with a low experience rating (soldiers with poor aircraft recognition training) and units with low FC rating (AAA units without IFF technology) have a chance at...

Re: Google_Earth as a map designing powertool

The only problem is that it dosen't show any elevation at all in fairly flat terrain, like the desert. This isn't good if you're trying to design North Africa scenarios.

Re: CARIBBEAN CRISIS - NOW AVAILABLE!

What I did was buy several RR jeeps and set them up in ambush positions with overlapping fields of fire. They were able to hold off a lot of tanks. They started to run out of ammo and be overwhelmed...

Re: MBT-70

Still, it was a very cool tank. The prototypes that never make it into service are actually more interesting than the stuff that does the real fighting. How many German Maus superheavy tanks saw...

Re: Riflemen have too much ammo

MGs usually carry very heavy ammo loads, and do most of the killing. What we're talking about is regular infantry rifles (and especially SMGs), whose low ammo usually limited their utility in combat....

Re: Your greatest victory and worst defeat

I remember that one, it was too hard for me. I eventually did complete the campaign. Frankfurt was actually pretty easy, though- I dumped smoke right on top of my positions, so the enemy couldn't see...

Re: Riflemen have too much ammo

Cameronious, that's what the run-of-the-mill Motor Rifle Troops did in Afghanistan. Soviet soldiers travel light and only carry four magazines, one in the gun and three with them storage. Like I said...

Did anyone tell you, by the way, that the Shillelagh had a one mile minimum range?

Re: Shermans vs T-34s

The M4A3E8 is a very advanced version of the Sherman. For most of the war, the allies used tanks like the M4A1. This is probably what made you think that. The original Sherman series had a...

Re: MBT-70

Is it just me, or does that seem to be pretty low? From what I understand, the MBT-70 was supposed to be a very heavy and very big tank. I've looked before but no source gives you a straight answer....

Re: Riflemen have too much ammo

The manual says a turn is 3 minutes and you say it is 1.5. Which one is it?

I don't like creating a new OOB because it creates PBEM problems and messes with scenarios that other people designed....

Re: Mechanical Breakdowns?

I was thinking about that the other day, and it dosen't seem to be a problem. For example, if you want a 1 in 200 roll, take a 1 in 100 roll and a 1 in 2 roll and combine them.

Re: Mechanical Breakdowns?

They're too rare to occur in the kind of battles represented in this game. For example, even one of the most unreliable tanks ever built, the British WWII Crusader, suffered one breakdown every ten...

Re: Riflemen have too much ammo

If each infantryman gets 5 shots per turn on his rifle, let's assume that each HE unit represents 1/5th of what an infantrymen fires in one turn (3 minutes). Maybe a 3-round burst. 80 ammo points...

Re: Riflemen have too much ammo

It may be a game, but we try to make it fairly realistic- that's one of the big things about the entire Steel Panthers series. And giving riflemen hours of ammunition is a gross corruption of reality.

Re: My 1st scenario

Nice job! I like big maps. I had a lot of artillery but squandered it by firing off all of the cluster rounds in the first few turns. When I loaded the guns into trucks to move them to the ammo dump,...

Riflemen have too much ammo

I noticed that most riflemen in the game have 100 ammo points for their assault rifles. This means that they can keep on firing through the whole game without ever having to rearm. This is...

Re: Shermans vs T-34s

Yeah, and the T-34's gun is of much lower quality than Western models because it has a low-pressure chamber. So the Sherman could easily kill whatever a T-34 could kill. And did they fit any HEAT...

Re: Tank Riders

I like the system the way it is now. Generally, you don't want to fire your MGs at tanks lest you give their position away. MGs are vulnerable to tanks, so it's best that they stay hidden for that...
