Fyron, I just grabbed the bigger .jpg you posted, I'll see what I can do with that. If you want me to work with the original .png just send me an e-mail and attach it!!
Cheers!
Edit: Ok, here's the result of a wee bit of fooling around with the larger .jpg...
First a comparison with a gif and a jpg (set at minimum compression to retain as much detail as possible!)

.gif .jpg
..and here is a .zip with a .bmp, .png, .gif, and .jpg! Fyi, I have a great program for reducing pics and I could not notice any diff in the .gif compared to the original .bmp (16m colors!) the .png was saved at 16m colors too!!

The .jpg is the most 'notably' different. (but that is to be expected due to the type of file compression used in a .jpg!)
Let me know what you think! Cheers!
P.S. are you aware the your current avatar pic is being distorted? the resizing being done (by the Shrapnel host) does not preserve the aspect ratio. If you look close you'll notice that your current avatar has a 'fatter' head. If you don't mind the distortion, I could do a resize without preserving the aspect ratio too! (I mention this because when comparing my avatar's to yours Mine looks a bit smaller, but that is the result of the distorting. Closer inspection will show you that the 'height' of the heads is the same. But I digress, sorry!
P.P.S. scaling without 'preservation' looks like this!

...wait a min, it looks like your avatar pic has been cropped first! hmmmm grrrrr!
...one more little edit.. here is one cropped resized, slightly brightend (2%), a 5% color boost (saturation), and a 10% sharpen to bring out just a bit more detail that was lost in the reduction process...

Cheers!
