The only data file that TDM modifies is the Formations.txt. You can install TDM into FQM Deluxe by copying the Pictures\Races folder from TDM into FQM. Then, copy the Formations.txt file from TDM to FQM. If you do this, then FQM Deluxe becomes incompatible for multi-player play. The next Version of FQM Deluxe will include the Ultimate Strategies Mod (linked in my sig), so you will no longer have to worry about the Formations.txt file from TDM (as USM has all of the modded formations from TDM).

The Default Design and Colony Types files in FQM are there to add more variety to your options. They are not necessary, and do not affect MP game compatibility. You could even use them in your default data folder and maintain compatibility with MP games.
