Greenwich Mean Time. The time at the prime meridian, 0 deg longitude, planet Earth.
Not the local time at Greenwich, England -- they use European time, GMT+1.
[EDIT]
Ohh, Rag's link tells me I'm using an outdated term, oh well, I'll always find it funny Greenwich doesn't use the time of the prime meridian -- I know it's important to match Europe -- still funny 'tho.
