Well, I myself have programmed AI's, and am familiar with the principles of "neural networks", and other attempts to model intelligence, and I am completely unconvinced. Humans are not "biological computers", and there are plenty of reasons why computer speed will not magically achieve intelligence.
Speaking of sci-fi, most of the sci-fi I am aware of that features intelligent computers in command of armed military equipment, has those computers seize control and try to wipe out the biologicals. That's something else I'd mod in if I could, but I can't.
