Funny that you say that. You are right. But I remember in RotK (book) that in the final battle at the gate there are Trolls, too. Not in bright light but at daytime. Strange. Or does my memory fail me?

There are different types of trolls. Only some of them are aversely affected by sunlight. Others are not.

In the battle of Gondor in RotK, storm clouds and uncounted numbers of bats and birds blocked the sunlight anyways.
