Wars have been fought over resources for thousands of years and history hasn't stopped just because we are alive to witness it - just because Rumsfeld et.al. botched the "peace" doesn't make the reasons for the war untrue.

The only thing 9/11 and Iraq have in common is that Bush was able to link them in people's minds.
Besides there are better ways to spend $87B.
