I think it is still a usefull component in attack ships. Yes, if AI finds minefield it sweeps it efficiently in middle/late game, but AI still does not include dedicated sweepers into attacking fleets AFAIK. If enemy reseeds minefiled, attacking fleet can get into trouble.
Actually, what I am thinking of is leaving them on ships up to perhaps BC size, but removing them from BBs and DNs. Not sure yet, though.
