If you're REALLY nasty, trade it to your main competitor for some nice planets of his. Make the deal so sweet that he can't resist -- two or three planets for one. You'll still be set back, but not as badly as you might have been, and you'll set your competitor back also so it won't hurt as bad, relatively.
