Actually, shield depletors are not prerequestive. Any direct fire weapon capable hurting ships will suffice. There were no changes in 1.84 regarding boarding ships AFAIK. There must be some mistakes in Fyron' ship design and/or strategies, I do see perfectly normal ship cupture in my games
