Ouh. So you must be better then me in assigning ship strategies ! Usually I end up with all enemy ships mowed down to bare shell with one component What is your fleet composition ? Most ships are boarders, right ? Do you use temporal weapons ? TDB seems to be an ideal weapon for boarder. In this game I am using no special racial characteristics. My standard armaments are PDC, DUC, Meson BLasters, Shield Depleters. I do have an unusually large proportion of Boarding ships-- about 1/4 to 1/6 of a standard fleet are boarders. The boarding ships are armed with shield depleters and PDC only. My best results occur when 4 to 8 enemy ships warp through and are caught by my fleet of 20+ ships. I often capture 1 or 2 of them. With this many enemies, the boarders get a chance to do their stuff before total destruction. With fewer enemies, they are destroyed very quickly.
I have one warp point guarded by a single boarding ship and about 30 fighter Groups. Even there I have captured 4 or 5 ships, though I didn't think it was more than a faint hope.
Often the captured ship is slagged down to 2 or 3 components and usually useless. On a couple occasions the ship was 100% intact (or at least my repairs ships could repair all damage including the SDD). With high tech cost, even one intact, unknown component was enough to make me drool; some ships gave me 4!
All in all, I was very pleased and little experiments like this are the main reason I occasionally play solo games. Otherwise, its PBW all the way!
