If you work on a program that has a changeable background color, you can turn it black. I use Microsoft Visual Studio so I changed the source windows to have a black background and the text to white. So I have the Visual Studio maximized, and the forum window as a small window on top. I scroll down a bit to hide the bullet logo. It also helps to have other windows on the screen like Notepad, DOS prompt, etc to make the screen look busy. When I see the reflection of the boss on the black background, or if I hear his footsteps I quickly click on the Visual Studio window to bring it to the foreground, so the forum window gets hidden behind it. Also, I set the task bar to auto-hide.

Unfortunately, I'm very busy at work so I rarely get to use this trick.

Or maybe you can use some non-graphical, text-based internet browser program to read and post to the forum. When there are no graphics and it's just text, anything looks like work.
