Hello Pocus,
when I adapt a race for DNM, I usually rewrite most of the AI files. That takes a couple of days and with testing and more tweaking it can take a week or two.
Files that need special attention are research, designcreation, and planettypes. Usually a DNM AI needs a lot more copies of a design type for different stages of the game, because of the different mounts. Also some abilities in the designs need to be used differently. Use 'Mine Sweeping' for PDC, and 'Point-Defense' for AFM. Also early fighter research is good, so they will get higher levels of AFM as well as use fighters, which the AI handles pretty well and are quite effective in DNM.
