Actually, it is best to have the swap file make up the difference between your amount of RAM and a certain size, which I do not recall off the top of my head. It is not just 2x the RAM you have or anything like that.
And, setting a permanent swap file size only gives noticeable performance increases with low amounts of physical RAM on lower end systems. It really does not do much for most PCs.
