Yeah, there is that option. If the game is set to "All player's planets the same size", then your carefully designed selections may be overridden.

You can't be sure of exactly what would happen, but the game would change that sector as it needs to.
Example:Hydrogen gas giant with tiny ice and tiny rock moon, selected as home planet for the Terrans, may end up with any of the 3 altered to suit.
If selected for the Eee, which are a Carbon Dioxide gas race, you'd just change the atmosphere of the gas giant and go, but the game isn't that smart, and will again change a random planet. Or erase the entire sector and just put the planet it needs.
