BTW, the original design for the Romulan Warbird (the one seen on TNG, people always get that confused with the TOS Bird of Prey which looks completely different
) was a vertical design; instead of the "wings" projecting outward, they were to project up and down. It got scrapped, IIRC, because a vertical ship is hard to get good shots of on a horizontal TV screen.
