I am Lindsey and I understand from your e-mail that you received a message that appears to be from Microsoft and contains an attachment or virus. I apologize for any inconvenience this e-mail may have caused you.



As you may have suspected, this is a hoax and did not originate from Microsoft. The e-mail appears to be the result of the "W32/Swen@MM" virus which causes infected systems to send out e-mails that forge the @microsoft.com e-mail address in the "From" field.



We never send unsolicited e-mails with attachments. Since this is the result of a spreading computer virus, there is no single source for us to investigate or track down. Information about Microsoft security policies and updates can be found at:
