perhaps the Earth Alliance then. IIRC they concentrate on development and build up a very good economy, if left alone.
Do I understand you right? You want to play on a huge map against only one AI?
I think that you will have a very easy and boring time, since you will colonize and develop much more efficient than the AI.
Perhaps at least 3 good TDM AI and use AI vs human option.
