Tons of stuff! See the patch history.txt file. A lot of it is subtle but makes a huge difference, such as having a stationary (or otherwise, random) player move or fire first in tactical combat, instead of pre-Gold's "use the player number order", which meant Player #1 always fired first when fleets started out in range.
